A 50-year-old man is in a critical condition after his light plane crashed and burst into flames in Western Australia.
Witnesses described seeing the small plane plunge to the ground and burst into flames near a runway at the Geraldton Regional Airport just before 4:00pm WST.
Police say the pilot, who was the only person on board has suffered serious burns and is in a critical condition. A male employee of the airport received smoke inhalation and burns after assisting at the crash scene.
Both the pilot and the airport employee were flown to Perth for treatment.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the cause of the crash.
